About EUSA InterCounty Development League

EUSA is a member of the Suburban Youth Soccer League NJ (SYSL) which is an Inter-County cooperative recreational soccer league of member town clubs based in central New Jersey.  Their mission is to offer as many children as possible to participate in semi-competitive soccer programs through their local organizations.  SYSL is a semi-recreational league and is comprised of member clubs from the suburban New Jersey footprint of Union, Middlesex, Essex, and Somerset counties. The league offers high quality, flighted competition ranging from the purely recreational athlete through to more competitive players that cannot make a full-time commitment to a disciplined travel soccer program.

In the Fall 2009, we started with 4 teams and now have 20+ teams represented.  Our number one goal of the Development League Program is to provide a feeder program to our Pre-Academy Travel program and prepare players and parents for travel, middle school and high school soccer.  We are seeking players who are committed to increasing their soccer IQ and skill level and who attend practices and games regularly.

InterCounty organizes a Fall and Spring season and it is expected that players registering will play both seasons.  InterCounty administers boys and girls divisions for U11, U13, U15 & HS age groups.

All brackets play a regular season and play-offs to a championship game.

Tryouts and Age Groups
There are no official tryouts for InterCounty Development League.  As we have an active Foundation League, we seek to properly place players in the appropriate divisions.

Age groups are determined as follows:

Group

Age of player based on year of birth less end of season year.

 U-11  10 & 11 years old
 U-13  12 & 13 years old
 U-15  14 & 15 years old
 HS  16 - 19 years old

When and Where do InterCounty Development Teams Play
Development teams generally play five (5) games in Edison and five (5) games in other towns that are within a 30-40 minute driving radius.  Games are generally played on Saturday, although there may be an occassional Sunday game due to a towns field availability.

Practice, Practice, Practice
The only way to develop a better-skilled player and team is to practice, practice and practice. Development teams practice two times a week - 1 with our professional trainers and 1 with their team coach.  EUSA provides each team with a professional trainer for 8 training sessions.  Any additional use of a professional trainer will be at the expense of the team.  Teams are only authorized to utilize Board approved trainers.  All have an agreed fee with EUSA.  The dates and times of all practice sessions are scheduled by EUSA.

Who is Not Eligible
If you play travel or are on the Varsity HS soccer team, you are eligible to play on the Development League only on the top tier divisions.

Fees
Registration for Development League opens only in the Fall season (May -August registration period).  Players register and commit to a two (2) season schedule (Fall & Spring) and pay as such.  The fee covers the registration for two seasons, uniform costs, referee fees, insurance, training shirts, fall speed & agility training, and professional trainers.  Uniforms are expected to be utilized for two (2) seasons.

Playing Time
Playing time is not guaranteed.  Our goal is that all children will play a minimum of 50% throughout the course of the season.  However, that may be reduced at the coaches discretion if a player does not attend practices regularly or does not give effort during the games.  Coaches and their staff do their best to ensure that all children receive appropriate playing time.
