Code of Conduct

EUSA provides many levels of organized soccer activities. Whether a player is just beginning to learn to play or serious about developing advanced skills, it is important to recognize that continuous training to maintain and improve their technique, skills, strength and overall fitness is a commitment necessary to play at the highest levels of competition.

Membership is not a right, but rather a privilige conditioned upon compliance at all times with the applicable version of Edison United Soccer Association's (EUSA) ('the Club") Code of Conduct, Concussion Policy and Financial Policy, as amended from time to time.

Players and their parents make a commitment to EUSA for either a soccer season (such as our Recreational progams of Kick & Play & Foundation) or a soccer annual season (such as Travel and InterCounty) that covers preseason Fall training, Fall Season, Winter training, Pre-Season Spring season, Spring Season, and some teams will also participate in a Summer Select Season. Each Spring, Travel players will be evaluated to determine whether a player will continue with their Team the following Fall.

A player may be separated from their Team during the season for disciplinary or other reasons, which is at the sole discretion of their Coach and the Board of Directors, financial reasons for failure to meet their obligations, or other violations of EUSA policies and practices set forth herein and on the EUSA website.

Players and their parents, as applicable, are expected to:

1. Attend all training sessions and games, unless for excused absences. Players are to arrive at training sessions and games at the times designated by the Coach or Team Manager. Reasonable absences for sickness or special circumstances, such as occasional family matters, are expected and players are to inform the Coach or Team Manager prior to an absence or lateness for training sessions or games. Players are expected to do their best at all times while competing within the rules of the game.  TeamSnap is the official communication platform for all teams and is to be utilized.

2. Obey the directions of their Coach or Team Manager.

3. Maintain a behavior that reflects positively on EUSA at all times. Your behavior is expected to be exemplary at training sessions, games, tournaments and other EUSA events. Further, your behavior must be positive, showing courtesy and respect, at all times towards the EUSA program, its Coaches, players, staff, other players and their parents and those of competing teams. Players are expected to make a commitment to do well in school. Poor behavior or performing poorly in school is a reflection on the EUSA program that will not be tolerated.

4. Wear Team designated uniforms, training gear, appropriate footwear, shin guards and bring the proper size ball and water to training sessions and games.

5. Not play with any team other than their designated EUSA Team without the written consent of EUSA unless it is their middle school or high school team.

6. Be physically fit to play. Players on a EUSA Team that plays year-round are expected, in addition to their Team training schedule, to practice on their own year-round and committed to improving their skills. Also, players are not permitted to use illegal drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or engage in illegal activities.

7. Adhere to the policies and practices described on the EUSA website that will be updated from time to time. Players and parents are required to review this website at the beginning of the season and no less than once during the season.

8. Communicate with your Coach regarding a player’s performance and conduct. Such communication is to be avoided within the hour prior to, during and after a game or training session, and at other times where a Coach is engaged in activities of the Team that require the Coach’s full attention. Parents and/or players are welcome to schedule a meeting with their Coach at a mutually agreeable time to discuss any concerns. It is the responsibility of the player to communicate with their Coach any concerns they have, including progression in skills, game
playing time, and interaction with others on the Team. Players are to send copies of written communications with their Coach to their parent(s).

9. Acknowledge the Club's Concussion Policy, which prohibits any player who has suffered any apparent brain trauma from returning to play in that game or any subsequent game without a doctor's release and return to play plan.

Parents are expected to:

1. Refrain from providing instructions or other Coaching to any players from the sidelines during training sessions or games. Such action may lead to immediate removal of your child from participation on the pitch. Positive vocal support of players is encouraged, such as “Go Blue (when we are wearing Blue uniforms), etc.” Abuse of or complaining to the referees or other game officials before, during or after games shall not be tolerated.

2. Respect for the Coaches, staff, players and their parents and Board members at all times. Negative remarks about Coaches, staff, players and their parents and Board members shall be avoided.

3. Support their child’s involvement in EUSA activities. Timely communicate with the Coach or Team Manager about conflicts that prevent a player from attending a EUSA training session or game.

4. Transportation to and from training sessions, games, tournaments and other EUSA activities is the sole responsibility of the parent. Each parent or their designated guardian must attend with their child to these events.

Players and Parents Conduct:

Conduct must reflect positively on EUSA, their school and community at all times. Conduct that will not be tolerated is disruptive behavior, verbal abuse, including obscenities, threats of violence, assault or other detrimental behavior before, during or after training session or a game, or at any time towards Coaches, staff, players, parents, game officials and other attendees. Positive conduct must be maintained during the entire time while traveling for tournaments, particularly for overnight tournaments, where the players and their parents conduct is a direct reflection of their affiliation with EUSA.

Team Placement:

A player may be moved to another Team at any time. Prior to the player being moved, the Coach will communicate with the player’s parent the need for the move of the player.

Every player on a Team is guaranteed all training with the Team. There is NO guarantee of the amount of game playing time for a player. The Team Coach determines the amount of playing time for a player. The Coach’s decision is given a great deal of thought that may include, in part, the league that the player’s Team is a member, and the player’s age, level of skill, commitment to improving, ability to integrate in Team play, conduct, attendance & preparedness at training, and the needs of the Team in any given game or tournament.

Financial:

EUSA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that derives its funding from payments from its players, the Township of Edison, donations or gifts, fundraisers and other activities. Fees are set for a division that anticipates a number of players and Team activities.

EUSA operates on a cash in, cash out basis, as such, we do not grant refunds.  We have, however, purchased an insurance product that will provide refunds under the following extenuating circumstances: season ending injury or illness and death of athlete or parent.  More information can be found under our Refund Policy.

Player and Parents agree to comply with the Club's Financial Policy, which requires the Player and Parents to pay all Club fees (registration, uniforms, etc.) and all Team fees when and as those fees become due and payable.  For travel fees, a payment plan may be offered as a courtesy to the player.  The payment plan is NOT a reflection of monthly fees.  Player and Parent agree that Club may suspend Player's playing privileges during any period when Player and Parents are not in compliance with the Club's Financial Policy and may terminate Player's membership in the Club if the Player is out of compliance with the Club's Financial Policy for more than 30 days.

Any player that fails to make payment in full in accordance with the Division Fee or have been modified pursuant to their application for financial hardship will not be allowed to attend practice sessions, games or participate in any Team activities until payment is received.

All fees are non-refundable.

Training and/or Coaching:

The Board of Directors decides upon the training company to be utilized by EUSA in the best interest of the development of its players.  No other training company coaches may be used by any EUSA team that has not been approved by the Board of Directors.

Acknowledgment:

EUSA created this Code of Conduct to ensure fairness, quality of training and the most positive and rewarding experience for all.  Both the player and the parent understand that the failure to meet the conditions set forth above, could and will result in the player's separation (e.g. suspension and/or dismissal) from EUSA.

This Club's Code of Conduct, Standards and Policies are published on the Club's website and may be read and printed.  It is your responsibility to read and familiarize yourself with these policies.
